If You Abide in His Word

Reformation Sunday!

The day we remember the importance of Scripture as the only source for knowing God and the Way of salvation in Jesus.

Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.”

John 8:31-32

The foundation for faith. The cradle for comfort. The lamp for living. The Word and the Way.

Ok, I’ll stop.

But it’s important.

Through Scripture we learn about Jesus who sets us free from sin. Free from the Law which condemns. Free from death itself.

All of us were slaves to sin and the Law.

In Jesus we are free and saved.

That’s not just “a big deal,” it’s the only deal that matters!

Jesus is the only Way of freedom and salvation. If we “abide in [His] Word, [we] are truly [His] disciples” (John 8:31) and He sets “us free indeed” (John 8:36).

Believe in Jesus. Follow Him. Trust in Him. Abide in Him. Be free in Him.

A truly reformed life and eternity follows!

“Thank You, Jesus, for setting us free from the law of sin and death. Thank You for that Truth of eternal life and present living. Help us to hold tightly to You in our lives and share You for the lives of others. In Your precious name do we pray. Amen.”

An Open Door

What amazing opportunities that God places before us!

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens. “ ‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.’ ”

Revelation 3:7-8

As we gaze across the countryside of Sealy you can’t help but notice all the homes which have been built in the last ten years.

Some would call this progress, while others would say it’s regressive because we want Sealy to stay a small town.

Regardless of your attitude on the population growth here, as followers of Christ we must say that this is an opportunity God gives to all Christians living in this area. And at the same time we must remember who has the power to open this opportunity and it’s definitely not us. The power is in our amazing God that through His Son, Jesus, He gives His life as the sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins. Not only does He give us eternal life through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He also gives us the power to take advantage of the opportunities that He Himself places before us.

Righteousness Apart from the Law

We hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

Romans 3:28

The message of the Reformation is as important today as ever, because its message is Scripture’s message: Justification by faith in Jesus apart from works.

That doesn’t diminish works; it elevates God’s Grace. It elevates the work of Jesus in His incarnation, suffering, death, and resurrection. It elevates saving Faith in Jesus given through the Holy Spirit.

Because we are now justified, we revel in the opportunity to do God’s good works whenever and however we can!

Such an important, timeless, Biblical message!

REFORM

For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

Romans 3:28

The treasure of the grace of God through faith in Jesus is not something easily believed. When grasped, the magnitude seems incomprehensible. Utterly fantastical. Beyond reason or understanding!

That is why it is lifted so high, taken so deep, and clenched so tightly!

May our lives be reformed because of this ecstatic truth!

Change is A-Comin’! [Reformation Sunday]

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Romans 3:23–24

We all know what it’s like to live in sin. It is a constant and familiar companion in our journey of life. We know it shouldn’t be, but it is.

God has given us another, different, better way to live – the way of Faith; the way of justification; the way of Jesus! In, through, and by Him – and Him alone – our life of sin is transformed eternally to a eternal life of righteousness with Him!

That’s a change we can all get on board with!
