GALATIANS – A “Different Gospel” is NO ‘Gospel’

I died to the Law through the Law, so that I could live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the life that I now live in my body, I live by faith, indeed, by the faithfulness of God’s Son, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:19–20 (CEB)

St. Paul’s letter to the Church in Galatia is one filled with love, confusion, hurt, and hope. In it we see his love for these people that he labored among and his deep love for them.

But they are being misled and told different things in his absence. A “different Gospel” is being propagated, nullifying his work and, more importantly, endangering their faith and salvation.

This won’t do!

Paul lovingly chastises them and remind them that a “different gospel” is really NO Gospel!

Scriptures

  • Galatians 1:1-10

“Man of Your Word” – God’s Word

“God is faithful. He has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NirV)

“Your Word is written in stone
It’s a thing we can always count on
You honor Your word
You’ll never have to repent
‘Cause You’ll never go against what You say”

God’s Word is our theme today. It is where we place our hope and trust because in It – in HIM – we hear of forgiveness, life, and salvation. We hear of everything that matters!

Scriptures

  • John 1:1;
  • Hebrews 4:12-16;
  • 2 Timothy 3:14—4:4

“Man of Your Word” – God’s Faithfulness

“God is faithful. He has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NirV)

“We have this confidence
You’ll finish what You started
God, You have never failed
You won’t start with me
You’re present in every step
Patient in every heartache
God, You have never failed
You won’t start with me”

Today we see how God, who started His good work in us will continue to work on us; and He is faithful in all He does!

Scriptures

  • Philippians 1:3-11

St. Paul loves the people in the churches he’s visited.

That is true with the Church in Galatian, too.

He labored there for some time and then was absent for some time.

While absent, some of the Jews were trying to convince the Gentile believers that they had to fulfill all of the Law and regulations (even though they themselves couldn’t!), contrary to what Jesus and the Gospel is all about.

In this sermon series, we will walk through the book where Paul works to correct this fatal error cropping in to the Church – lovingly, but firmly!

We hope you’ll join us for this Galatians sermon series!

“Man of Your Word” – God’s Power

“God is faithful. He has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NirV)

“All things are possible
When we believe
Old chains are breakable
When we receive
Yahweh
You keep Your promises”

We focus on God’s Power today, never having to worry about anything, because if the Almighty is for us, it doesn’t matter who’s against us!

Scriptures

  • Mark 9:14-29;
  • Philippians 4:11-13

PRINCE of PEACE: God With Us Through the Chaos

We complete our Advent journey to the manger today.

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:27

“Peace” seems pretty fleeting in our current world, country, and culture. Yet that’s what we’re called to! We are to be the ambassadors of God’s peace in our families, our communities, and our culture. That doesn’t mean there will be no hostilities around us, but that in and through them, we are sharing the One who brings peace amidst and through the chaos. We share the coming Jesus as the One through whom chaos and hostilities have been conquered. We share Jesus, Who blesses the world with hope through the peace only He can – and has – given! Bring it, Lord!

EVERLASTING FATHER: God With Us Beyond Temporary Hardships

We continue our Advent journey to the manger today.

Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

John 8:58

Our lives are temporary. By extension, so are all our hardships and troubles. Every difficulty we are going through will end! We often forget that. We also forget that, through Jesus, we have an eternity to look forward to where there will be no crying or hardships or pain. Those will have passed away forever! When we backup and look at our current challenges through that lens, it is a lot easier to endure them and see them for what they are – a very small, very temporary setback that will be forgotten!

MIGHTY GOD: God With Us in Our Weakness

We continue our Advent journey to the manger today.

You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.

Psalm 89:26

One of the many things this pandemic has taught us is just how powerless we are! We seem to be dragged into situations and predicaments we feel helpless to change. Working and schooling from home, or mandates of what will or will not be open (and the loss of livelihood that may follow!), and other things can make us feel, well, weak. But we have a God who is mighty and nothing that is or can happen is too big for Him! His is over all of this and, because He loves and cares for us, we know that His power is exercised in a way that will work out for our good! That’s His mighty promise – and He always keeps His Word! The Incarnation is proof of that! So rise up, mighty child of God! Your Savior has come!
