LOVE – is Alive — EASTER, 2022

Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.

Luke 25:5b-6a

God is love! Jesus is alive! Through the resurrection of Jesus, Love is alive and well for us and for eternity!

Death couldn’t hold Him, so it can’t can’t hold us!

What a joyous day!!

CHRIST IS RISEN!! HE IS RISEN, INDEED!! ALLELUIA!!

Scriptures

  • Luke 24:1-12
  • 1 Corinthians 15:17-26

“CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN, INDEED! ALLELUIA!!”

This is the great shout for Easter; the highest day on the Church calendar!

On this day we celebrate the victory of Jesus over sin, death, and the power of the devil. All that He went through and endured is over and exultation and joy remain.

And for all who have faith in Jesus as their savior gain the same victories He won! Our sins are gone and forgiveness takes its place. Death is gone and everlasting life takes its place. Pain and anguish are bound to this life only and joy eternal awaits.

The resurrection of Jesus is the sole event to which all of history hinges. All of the old testament points to its coming and all since draws meaning in the light of it.

If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.

1 Corinthians 15:17

Without the resurrection everything else would be pointless and moot!

Come and be with us to celebrate this greatest day of the year and see how Jesus, though His resurrection, changes everything – for you!

LOVE – is Response

The whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Luke 19:37b-38

We see how Jesus showed His love through His actions by entering a hostile city, knowing it would mean His suffering and death – but doing it anyway for us!

In seeing His love and what that means, we are Called to respond in kind! “We love because He first loved us!” ~1 John 4:19.

LOVE – in Action

“Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:28b-31

The famous saying “love is a verb” is meant to evoke the reality that unless acted upon, love is only a superficial word which carries no true meaning.

Love is not just to be verbalized but also demonstrated. It is to be played out in our actions. It is to be lived.

May others know we are Christians through our actions!

LOVE – Everyone

“Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:28b-31

We are constantly looking for loopholes when it comes to the second greatest commandment: loving others as ourselves. But God doesn’t give us any.

When we try to get away with loving just some He clarifies: love everyone. Always.

LOVE – with Your Whole Being

“Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:28b-31

When we do things it is not normally done in passion, with our whole being!

But that is exactly how God calls us to Love Him!

He wants no mediocre love. He wants no partial commitment.

He wants us; all of us in every way!

Nothing less will do!

Heart, Soul, and Mind!

Everything!

LOVE – Talking and Teaching

“Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:28b-31

This week we continue our journey of LOVE by looking at another part of God’s command in Deuteronomy 6: teaching about God and talking about Him.

By doing so, we share not only Who He is, but what He has done and how He acts in Love through His promised Messiah, Jesus.

If we aren’t teaching and sharing Him, we likely aren’t acting in love, either.

LOVE – the One God

“Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:28b-31

LOVE is our Lenten theme and focus as we see what this greatest commandment entails, means, and how it should be played out.

This first week will look at the first part of the commandment – that we cannot love unless we know Who it is we are called to Love: the One True, Triune God!

Not other ‘gods’; not other people; not ourselves. Him and Him alone! He is God! He is who we are Called to Love! Anything else is idolatry!
