1 CORINTHIANS — Part 10

I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.

1 Corinthians 9:22b

The issue of last week in discussing food takes a broader tack this week as we see how to examine all of our actions, not for our benefit, but for the benefit (and possible salvation!) of others.

This should be our main concern and focus as we do (or do not) act in any particular way.

We are to do it all “for the sake of the gospel” of Jesus!

Scriptures

  • 1 Corinthians 9

1 CORINTHIANS — Part 9

I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.

1 Corinthians 9:22b

It was common in Corinth for food that was previously sacrificed to idols to be sold in the marketplace purchase and use.

For some it seemed grossly improper for a believer to purchase and eat any of this food. For other believers, it was not an issue.

Paul tells us the bigger issue is the conscience of our brother and sister, not the food!

Scriptures

1 CORINTHIANS — Part 8

I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.

1 Corinthians 9:22b

Paul and the early Church had in their mind that Jesus could return at any moment, so all energies should be focused on sharing Him and living in His Word.

We’ve lost that sense of urgency!

When that is present, we see priorities differently and don’t get complacent, taking God, His Word, and His blessings for granted.

They can still be enjoyed, but He must still be our priority!

Scriptures

  • 1 Corinthians 7:17-40

New “Tykes” (Preschool) Series

But the fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good. It is being faithful and gentle and having control of oneself.

Galatians 5:22-23a (NIrV)

We’re starting a new “Tykes” (preschoolers) series on Sunday, August 14!

Difficult Topics

FORGE wanted to cover some “Difficult Topics” from May 24 – August 23, 2022, to get a handle on what’s going on in the world and how we, as Christians, should respond to those issues.

For our time together we determined to go through the following questions and process:

  1. What is the ISSUE?
  2. Do I truly UNDERSTAND the issue? [Opposing viewpoints, etc.]
  3. How do you FEEL about the issue? Why?
  4. What do the SCRIPTURES say about the issue, directly or indirectly?
  5. What would Jesus do? What would Jesus have US do? What lesson(s) is this teaching me?

The dates and topics we decided to cover, as well as some of the Scriptures for each topic are below.

(A PDF of all of this is available here. There is also a PDF of a document from our Church denomination on “”Gender Identity Disorder or Gender Dysphoria in Christian Perspective” here.)

1 CORINTHIANS — Part 7

I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.

1 Corinthians 9:22b

Marriage takes work It takes communication. It takes sacrifice. It takes love.

None of this should be a surprise, but knowing it and applying it are two different things.

Couples need to be there for each other – consistently and humbly!

When we get puffed-up in our relationships and demand our own ways instead of submitting in love and respect to each other, bad seeds are planted and start to take hold.

Let this not be!
