“For Better or For Worse”

The stories of how most of the disciples died is not told to us. The few that are gruesome. The legends of some of the others are even worse.

In God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Psalm 56:11

The fact is, following Jesus caries a high price.

Being the Bride of Christ, in this life, will often be “for the worse.”

The statement, “what can man do to me?” can be answered with “plenty!”

Yet, we are Called to follow anyway; and the result will be well worth it!

That’s His faithful promise!

SCRIPTURE:

Anointing with Oil

On Sunday, August 8, 2021, during worship, we will have a time when those who would like to be anointed with oil may come up, be prayed over, and anointed.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

James 5:14

“Where Do You Want to Eat?”

Most of us are aware of the feeding of the 5,000.

They all ate and were satisfied.

Mark 6:42

But we often forget that this happened after an already very long day. Jesus and the disciples were tired and needed to get away, but the people followed them and Jesus had compassion on them. So He fed them; first and foremost with the Word through His teaching, then through bread and fish.

The second miracle is the one we remember, but in its doing gave evidence to the true miracle of Him and the Word!

The question is: what are you hungry for? Food that perishes or the Bread of Life Himself?

By all means, decide where you are going to eat after worship, but know that you have been fed with the Word here and now!

Prayer Request for Starfish Kenya

Dear Starfish Kenya Prayer Partners,

I just video-chatted with Moses and he asked for prayer for his team for the upcoming weekend and the for next week.

With the graduating seniors, it leaves space for adding 47 new children, plus Moses would like to add an additional 17 to bring the on-campus total to 350. (We support many, many more in college and technical training in addition to those onsite!)

There is a multitude of children from all over the Kenya—to the far reaches — hoping for a place at House of Hope School. House of Hope sent word out and held a Visitors’ Day and over 400 guardians/relatives who are in desperate need and who care for children in desperate need made their way to HOH for a chance at placement for their kids.

Starting Thursday the teachers and staff will travel to every part of Kenya, from the inner city slums to far-reaching areas of the country that are dangerous in terms of bandits. He said the teachers are so dedicated that they want to go for the sake of the children having a chance at life and a good education. (I can’t help but think that our decision to continue to support the teachers and staff during COVID added to this kind of dedication. They were so, so appreciative and grateful!) Moses asked for prayers of safety for all.

When they return, they will have the task of choosing which children will be selected to fill the spaces available. This is very difficult for all of them. Please be in prayer for the children and the staff.

Due to COVID their school breaks have been and will continue to be very short because the country is trying to make up for the school time lost due to COVID so the kids don’t lose a year of school. This is hard on all, as breaks are the time when directors and staff have a break to tend to their own extended and immediate families and prepare for the next semester and students get a break from the very rigorous school schedule.

Please pray for Moses and Angie. The burden they bear every day, with hardly a break, is great, plus they have 3 small kids of their own, and aging parent issues.

St. Anna’s is doing well! We are having regular international Zoom meetings with all the partners from the various countries who support St. Anna’s in some way. The Mahiaini’s very capable son, Wanyeki, who is a pastor, has really stepped into a position of leadership to move St. Anna’s into the future and taken the burden off his parents, who are in their 90s now. We would appreciate prayers for St. Anna’s as well, and also for the Starfish Kenya core team of Cindy, Eva, Mickie, Elsa and myself.

We are so thankful for all of you, our Prayer Partners, and we pray God’s great blessings on you all! Thanks for your support in every way! Thanks for your outstanding support for our SKC fundraiser!

Love and blessings,
Pam

Backpack Drive!

Let’s help some kids get “Back to School” this Fall!

The LifeBridge Women’s Ministry, in partnership with the Sealy Pregnancy Resource Center, is working to help children and families in need get “back to school” by helping to with some needed school supplies.

The Backpack Drive will go from July 11 to August 8, 2021.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Pick a backpack off the chalkboard in the back of the sanctuary
  2. Buy and fill a backpack with the supplies on the attached list
  3. Return the backpack (filled with the supplies and original name you picked off the chalkboard) to LifeBridge by August 8

That’s it!

Thanks for being a blessing to others!

“This Old House”

Restoring an old house can be fraught with problems.

Show us Your steadfast love, O LORD, and grant us Your salvation.

Psalm 85:7

Often it becomes a “money pit.” Sometimes you have to gut the house down to the studs. Sometimes even to the very foundation!

Our sins make us dilapidated crumbling (even if we don’t know it).

Our restoration must start with prayer and confession.

Often it means our attitudes and habits must be torn down to the studs – or even our very foundation!

May that Foundation be Jesus!

In Him only are we restored! In Him only are we saved! In Him only is our everything!

Come, Lord Jesus!

Women Under 40 LifeGroup!

We are starting up a LifeGroup for women 40 and under!

We are so excited to start this new adventure. Our goal is to cater to the problems and everyday circumstances that young women encounter. We miss you, and we want to provide you with a safe, but fun and informative time of fellowship.

Did you know there are over 100 verses in the Bible about gathering or meeting? God must have thought it important that we do life together. My favorite verse about gathering comes from Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as in the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

I know what you are thinking, “I don’t have time for one more gathering.” Believe me, I felt the same way raising 3 kids of my own. God showed me that, if I put Him first, He would make sure everything else fell into place.

Last year was a rough one, and we probably would not have made it without the hope, love, and mercy of God. We want to be an encouragement throughout your life with your children, spouse, work, unforeseen circumstances, but most importantly we want to encourage your relationship with Jesus.

Won’t you come join us Thursday, July 15th from 6:30-8:00 in the LifeBridge Youth Room?

We are looking forward to some great fellowship with you!
